Injury Prevention for Skiiers
It’s that wonderful time of the year when many of you will be heading off for a long-anticipated ski or snowboarding holiday. Here are a few tips to help prevent injuries spoiling your fun!!
Preparation: fitness, exercise and stretching are important to get your muscles and ligaments into good shape well ahead of hitting the slopes. Having your spine checked and aligned before you go is a good idea, and as skiing and snowboarding rely on a strong core, hips and knees your chiropractor can advise exercises to help you prepare.
Warm up well: before you ski and after you have taken a well earned hot chocolate and lunch break.
Equipment: make sure your boots and skis are expertly fitted and adjusted for you
Be Patient: go steady for the first couple of days and don’t push yourself too far beyond your ability! Take time to adjust to the higher altitude
Warm bath or shower: after you finish for the day, have a lovely soak in a bath with some Epsom Salts or have a lovely long shower to ease those aching muscles!
Alcohol: be sensible and wait to enjoy this “Apres Ski”.
